Dali became famous for images within images. This was like the Renaissance painter Archimboldo.
Dali's The Invisible Man, 1939
contains a secret image composed from objects in the landscape. Can you see the seated man? What are his legs made from? What forms his eyes?
This work, by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, was painted during the Renaissance, 500 years ago. He made images out of unexpected objects and they could be viewed as a collection of objects or as a face for instance
The sunset clouds form what part of the man?
His forehead is formed from what?
I guess he was doing what we sometimes do when we look at the sky and imagine we see all sorts of things formed among the clouds.
